I found a model made in 2002 like new in the box at a garage sale. The person died and this tool was just waiting for me to take it home. I don't believe any one had used it to grind a drill bit. It was too cheap to pass up.

I guess the thing to do would be try it and see if it makes a point you like. I bought one many years ago, and evidently it was assembled by a new employee, and it never did work to suit me. Ended up buying a Leslie (which cost considerably more) from MSC. Been using it for almost 30yrs, now. Will sharpen up to and including 1.25. The Leslie is much more complicated to set-up to use.

I have played with this since Sat. and the problem I was putting too much pressure on the chuck when grinding the point. After a few try it seems to work fine. I tried drilling a few holes and they seem to be OK. If I have to make a more perfect hole, I will use a new drill bit. The people said they didn't know if any works or the battery took a good charge so now I a good buy.

Butt for $3 for the Drill Doctor and $2 for a Black and Decker low torc drill motor plus $5 for an American made 5 in. vice it pays to go early. I didn't need any of this stuff now and will pass it on to a son or grandson.

Nice score Les! From what I have read, the results with the Drill Doctor are highly correlated with technique. Sounds like you adapted well.

As a 34 year injection mold maker my take on the Drill Doctor is it's pure junk intended for the guy who uses a pistol drill in his garage a half dozen times a year

I also tried a DD years ago, and was disappointed with the results. I looked for and found a slightly used DAREX and have used it for about 15-years with great results.
