I was wondering if you could do a straight forward re-chamber of a 30-'06 Ackley Improved to 300 H&H? I know that there would have to be some action work.
Thanks for any help.

Chris

How long is the barrel now? Keep in mind that the bolt face and magazine need a lot of work.

It's a lot easier to just look for a 300 H&H for sale.

Don't let anyone fool you..

going to 300 win or 30-338/308 norma is EASY and fast..

but, unless you've got a LONG action, there's $$$, time and $$$ to go 300 HH

I did my 30-06 to 300 winnie about 10 years ago... bolt face, chamber, feeding, 8.25# 300 winnie in 2.5 hours

I don't have the data in front of me, but with the taper of the H & H case, and the sharp, expanded shoulder of the Ackley, I suspect that the old Ackley chamber may be already too large at the shoulder to clean up properly for the H & H without set back.

Thanks for the replies as stonecreek hit my worries on the head. It is very, very close fit from the case drawings I am looking at.
I already have a 300 Win, and a 308 Norma. I just picked up this barrel for a muaser 98. My plans are to build two rifles one in 375 H&H, and another in 300 H&H. I know that people don't like to put the H&H's in a standard mauser, but if done right (i.e. using Blackburn bottom metal and taking most the metal from the rear of the magazine well) it can be done.

Chris,
A 300 and 375 H&H works fine in a good Mauser 98 std. action if openned up "properly" mostly in the rear..Holland and Holland, Westley Richards and others been doing that for 100 years.
