Since having my '06 re-barrelled I am battling to get it to group properly.
I find the vertical shots spread reasonable (around 1")but not acceptable, but the groups are wide horizontally (around 1.5-2")
The barrel is a s/s Shilen match with a reasonably thick magnum type contour and a 1-10" twist, and the action is a pre-'64.
The action ahd chamber area have been glass-bedded.
Any suggestions?

Try between 10 to 20 pounds of upward pressure in the barrel channel near the forend tip (I am assuming your barrel is free-floated from the glass bedding in front of the receiver forward??). A thickness or two cut from a business card or equivalent should let you know if this is going to help. If it does, you can just leave the card in there, or replace it with a lump of bedding compound to the same pressure specs.

Let us know if this helps.

Good Luck! [Big Grin]

Does the rifle have a windage-adjustable rear scope base (Redfield-type)? If it does, the windage screws may be loose, which can cause horizontal, back-and-forth grouping.

If the group is "stringing" in one direction, the barrel may be shooting away from excess forend contact on one side of the barrel channel.
