Hey Guys, anyone rust blue a Ruger #1 action as opposed to caustic blueing. Does it being of a cast material, make it diffrent or difficult to rust blue. I know hot blueing Rugers sometimes takes a little more work with temps., and such! Wanting to get an honest blue/black instead of a purple tint, and good over all even color.

The only trouble I've had with rust blueing cast actions is that the degreasing process must be extremely thorough. Occasionally I've had what appears to be oil weep out of microscopic pores causing spots. Good luck.

I just did a rust blue on a No.1. Came out
fine, nice even black. Barrel and receiver
matched very well. Just clean it, and then
again and again. Lots of little places for
oil to hide in a No.1.

anyone tried an ultra-sonic cleaner before blueing? Seems like that would help with all the nooks.
