Of all the types of bolt rifle safeties I have used, the two position, up for safe down for fire on the left side of the bolt suites me the best. I think these were used on older FN mauser sporters. Does anyone know of this type of safety being available for an 03 Springfield?

The type you're looking for is available, but I believe they are all right handed. Numrich has them.

Two kinds. One is offered by Numrich and IMO is dog doo-doo, the other WAS offered back fifty years ago and is a high-quality product but hasn't been available in over 50 years now.

I hafta make my own and it's a PITA.
Regards, Joe

Have you tried the two position one for the Springfield? I feel it is much superior to the up/down one especialy if yoy try to work it with a pair of heavy gloves in cold westher.

Craigster, I will disassemble the 03 safety tomorrow and compair it to the photo to be sure, but it looks like that one rides the right side of the bolt. Thamks for the lead though. Jim Kobe, I assume you are referring to the horizontal swinging M-70 style. I have a couple of M-70's and while I like them ok, the vertical swing on the left side of the bolt is my favorite. No accounting for taste I guess.
