I saw a Model 70 chambered in 300 H&H today. It's a pre-64, serial number is in the 300000 range. Above the "magnum" on the barrel, KODIAK has been scribed on the barrel. Anybody ever heard of this wildcat? It has a custom stock on it, and I'm thinking about the gun for the action...

JBabcock,
I'm not positive, but there used to be "Kodiak" model rifle made by either Winchester or Remington. I don't remember them coming in 300H&H, though. I believe they were in 375 H&H and 458 Winchester.

Somebody on here who's up on the history of winnies and rems probably knows, but the Kodiak name rings a bell...

This rifle appears to have been re-chambered. I didn't have a flashlite with me to look, and the seller didn't either. He reluctantly agree'ed that the rifle had been opened up, and then said, that the seller said, "you could shoot regular 300 H&H through it." I'd watch someone else try first...

The words "Kodiak" have been stamped on with a different tool. It doesn't even look close to the original stamping. The gun has been sitting there along time, and I think the gun can be had for a pretty good deal. I would be interested even more if I knew I could clean it up to 300 Weatherby.
