Timan I was just sitting here once again marveling at some of the photos of some of the actions that you manufacture, and all the while also thinking about some of the threads here on AR that have philosophied about the various qualities of mauser actions. The question occured to me as to how much easier (and how much cheaper) would it be to build an exact mauser action except for one thing, which would be to put that third locking lug on the bolt in the same place the Springfield 03 did it, so that one wouldn't have to go in that back bridge area and cut out a locking lug recess in there. I know the one on the Springfield is rather large (and rather ugly) but a good design and good machining could probably take care of that. I guess the question then is, has anyone every made an exact copy of the mauser with the only thing different being the third safety lug of the springfield.

I have a special fixture for cuttting that third lug recess in the action. My fixture is adjustable for different action lenghts, Handy. This fixture is powered by a shaper. Cutting the 3rd lug recess in an action takes me about 15 minutes per action, not fast but gets it done and looks the same as work done on good originals so I'm happy with it. I jumped the third lug hurdle 10 years ago. I simply a matter of maintaining the set up now. Timan

That "H" and "T" thing is really starting to piss me off. Timan
