RenegadeRNBarrel Length Measurement
When measuring barrel length what is the correct measurement? From face of receiver to crown? Or from chamber inside of receiver to crown? (I hope those are correct terms..LOL!)
I have been really interested in obtaining a factory rifle and the advertised barrel length was 24", but when measured from the face of the receiver to crown it was 21.5". Does this seem right or a fluke?

D HumbargerFrom the breech or bolt face to the muzzle. Just drop a dowel rod down the muzzle & measure.

RenegadeRNThanks Doug for this timely reply. I'll get the terms right. Makes perfect sense. Advertising by manufacturer is correct!

If it measures only 21.5 from the face of the receiver, it sure can't be a 24". I don't know of any receiver that has about an inch and a half of receiver threads.

jeffeossoJim,
hence my comment on clsoed bolt ... a 308 on a rem model 7, with a 21.5inch barrel just MIGHT measure 24" with the bolt back...
OR its a pump shotgun?

That would be 2.5" 24-21.5= 2.5. Even more unlikely
