Sir,
In reference to a Rem 788 action with the rear guard screw a 3/16" x28, to enlarge to a 1/4 by 28 guard screw, which of the following would you do.

1.Use a 1/4x28 taper tap to enlarge to 1/4x28
............or
2.Drill and re-tap--if so, which drill?

You'll have to drill with a number 3 bit then tap for 1/4x28
