Unsticking a glass bedded rifle?

This might look like it was my doing seeing as I was asking about bedding recently but it is purely coincedental...

I had a Ruger 10/22 bedded in the shop a few years back which I just tried to take apart. Well it looks like it has stuck, and if I cast my mind back to the gunshop, the guy bedded it then gave it to me on the same day, all screwed up nice n tight.

He also bedded another rifle which I'm now worrying will be bound too.

So what to do?

I let the epoxy cure with a lamp on the receiver so the metal is hot, and then take it appart after the rifle has been in the freezer for 1/2 hour or outside in freezing weather.

The temperature co efficient of expansion is greater for steel than for epoxy or wood, so more of the expoxy sticks to the wood when I separate them [ when the steel no longer fits as well].

Do as Clark told you. Then give the barrel a "SHARP" blow with a wooden rolling pin, away from the stock.

I put my rifle in the freezer for a week. It took that long to separate it. Just one day didn't do it. But, it snapped out in after a week in the deep freeze.

When all else fails try Kroil. That stuff will get between anything! I used it once for a badly stuck action and it worked after a couple hours to get between the metal and the epoxy.......DJ

I use a dead blow hammer to give the action a good whack from the TOP! This always work for me, but I havent bedded a 10/22 so I cant really tell if the action will stand a couple of blows with a hammer from the top.......

I'd do like Clark and Robert said, freeze it. A week sounds good too. I wouldn't beat on the top of that aluminum receiver though, better I think to cut a block of oak to fit over the front and rear of the mag well where the metal is thick. Hit it hard there a few raps and it should come out. You'll have to be creative on how you support the stock.

ok, I got it out, hadn't read all the replys here yet, but I was about to put it into the freezer. I tried whacking the rifle upside-down onto my couch, that got it apart after ust a few whacks!!!

No harm done.
