Stock questions, lengthening and grip cap

Hey guys,

Two quick questions here. I'd like to add 1/4" to a stock, and might be able to with just a thicker pad, if not though, spacer wise what ends up looking better, the polymer or the hard rubber?

Other question, need to refinish the stock and the grip has been changed, while I could just finish it, I thought about adding a grip cap. I prefer metal (partially because I had a hell of a time getting a shape I liked once with ebony) but since it's already shaped what would I do, just buy a steel cap slightly oversize and grind it to shape? that'd mean getting one smooth so no steps to worry about.

Thanks.

For the spacer, I'd use whatever best matches the base of the pad you decide on using. For the grip cap you might take a look at the grip cap on a Ruger #1. Easily modified, relatively inexpensive, < $10 from Brownell's. The Ruger cap I have here measures 1.305" x 1.770".

I would use a thicker recoil pad for the added length. If you add a spacer, and don't change the recoil pad, the toe angles won't be the same.
