Savage 16FSS .300WSM B$L 4200 Elite 6-24x40 AO Mil Dot 42-6242M Burris Signature Rings (with the inserts) 420511. What two peice base? Does it have to be a Burris base? That ring number was for HI rings, matte. They have a 2 piece base that is reversable for extra eye releif? Matte is 410406. Is that the correct one? I haven't got a clue here folks but I want to be sure the bolt doesn't knock the scope. One of my others will if I'm rough with it.

PEI ROB, I'm going to give you my opinion here, which is only my opinion and not necessarily the best one. The answer to your question is that I believe you can use either Burris or Leupold bases, however..... I'm not a big fan of this system. There is not much support given to the scope and if the gun is a hard kicker eventually the front lug will wear to where all the stress is taken up by the 2 rear screws. It is nice to be able to adjust windage at the base rather than in the scope, but that is a small benefit compared to having all the slack in the system having to be taken up by 2 screws. I'm a big fan of Burris rings, but I'd suggest you trade yours in for some Burris Zee rings and a steel weaver base for your savage, I think you'd be better off in the long run. To be fair I have Leupold rings and base on a M70 30-06 that hasn't ever given me problems, but it also has a 3X9 on it, and that is much different than a 6X24AO on a 300WSM.

Mark, I agree. Asides, with the Signature insert system, having a windage adjustable base is redundant, anyway. I have gone exclusively to the Weaver bases, but on the Savage I wouldn't mind if they were just a little lower. Even low rings are plenty high for a 32MM objective. JMO, Dutch.
