DLH4570recoil lug on a 416 Taylor??
I am building a 416 Taylor on a Mauser action. Should I put another recoil lug on the barrel. if so how far from the action ring?
Thanks

tiggertateHow do you intend to stock it?

DLH4570I'm using an old fagen laminated (birch I think?) stock. I had the action and stock on another barrel.

tiggertateLaminates like to split if not inletted right; you may want to relieve a little around the rear tang but cross bolts should do most of the work on a Taylor. It probably needs them worse than a barrel lug.

jeffeossoIMHO the taylor doesn't need one... but they certainly aren't a bad idea.
if you want to, depending on the length of the shank will matter. On a normal length, just ahead of the taper from the shank to the barrel taper.
I've gotten to refer tig welding them on.. just a little heat, stop awhile, repeat, then drill and tap a tiedown screw, with a brass cup to hold it in the stock.
again, I don't feel you need one on a taylor, but it's not a bad idea

Frank MartinezI split the stock on my first .416 after only 4 shots of heavy loads. I recommend it. Granted it was not a circassian stock but I had relieved the tang sufficiently. In any regard it isn't that difficult to do
before any damage is done.
