-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OK, I have a Williams 5D reciever site I'd like to put on my Marlin 1894 44 mag and need some help... I am assuming the two screws on the left side of the reciever need to come out and the site plugs right into those holes, BUT one of the screws have been chewed up and I can't get it to turn for the life of me. Someone tried to get it out with the wrong tool and chewed up the top of the screw, now I can't get the screw driver to bite-took it to a gun store today and they want $30--yes $30 freakin $$$ to turn a freakin screw. I just have to think there is a better way! Any help or suggestions?? Thanks Dave | ||

Try heating it fairly hot to break the bond of oil or locktite, or rust if any. This should help to loosen it. Then use a fine pointed punch around the screw perimeter, and tap it out counterclockwise a little bit at a time; the punch will dig into the screw head slightly and hopefully wedge it out for you. A Dremel tool with a carbide dental burr will cut a new screw slot, but I wouldn't recommend that unless you are experienced at doing it, as it's to easy to slip and ruin the receiver. Hope this helps. - gunsmither | |||

1--make a sharp steel centerpunch 2--Carefully center punch the buggered screw 3--use a lefthand twist drill, smaller than the screw (brownells) 4--use drillpress, set for lefthand twist, and slow speed 5--before drilling spray screw with penitrating oil Usually the drill will "catch" and bring the screw out--as a matter of fact I've never had to go to plan B, which is drill screw untill hole is deep enough to use an easeout bit, use easeout bit. | |||
