Are Win. actions -670,70,770-all threaded the same? eg. would a mod.70 brl. screw into a 670 action?

I "thought" the threads were the same. But I wouldn't bet any serious $$ on my memory. However since the M70 has a notch cut for the extractor and the 670 doesn't have one I'm not sure how things would mate up.

That's usually the difference right there.. just because it's the same thread pitch doesn't mean it will thread in and function

70 pushfeed, 670, and 770 all have the same barrel shank. The barrels may or may not interchange, i.e sights line up when tightened and proper headspace. That has nothing to do with 70, 670 etc. Two pushfeed 70's may not swap.

That's what I thought. The headspace, sight line up will always be an issue on any barrel swap. I had forgotten about the M70 pushfeed when I answered. What about the extractor cut on a CRF M70. Wouldn't that be another issue trying to use it on a 670

The shanks on all model 70's prior to SC are simaler externally, but it is far from a simple screw on. It is doable but far from simple to use a push feed barrel on a CRF but you aren't much more ahead than starting with a contoured blank.

I never went the other way from CRF barrel to a pushfeed on a M70, but I did use a Springfield barrel on a Turk action and if I had realized it at the time, it would have fit up without having to mess around with a reamer; I was .050" short on the headspace but could have left that much of the cone breech on as it wouldn't have hurt anything other than appearance. I took the entire cone off first. The turk had smaller thread diameter. The Win would be the same as the other Win and would definitely complicate the swap.

thanks for the info. I am only interested in P f to P f, and don,t much care if the labels line properly or not, the deer won;t know the difference. Because of eyesight I use scopes. I just want a longer barrel, the 670 I have is 18" and is overly loud. Beside that I am not getting what the 270 is capable of. Thankx again
