Jeffeoso,
How would the sear cause this problem? The rifle still fires, I just cant get it on safe. I was thinking maybe something inside the bolt is broken.

M1, was the action trued? When the lugs and seats have material removed the bolt body is positioned slightly further aft than it was before. If the sear and trigger is polished the firing pin sits farther forward than it used to when cocked. This causes the safety cam to miss the notch in the cocking piece. The fix is to lengthen the notch slightly to the rear. Although I have done mine by hand it would best be done with a fixture and on a grinder and as Jeff says by your gunsmith.
