Just finished a pretty stock for a little ruger 77 short action. Nice piece of american walnut, figured from stem to stern. Carol over at ahlmans did a knock out checker on it. I picked it up there took it home and stet the barrel action in. Iw was a tight fit, so I tapped it a couple times with a plastic mallet to set it in. The &@&#%^@*( stock broke in half, right behind the recoil lug. I am not happy

Well, other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Although you'll never know for sure, I am betting that there was already an unseen defect in the wood, and your tapping was just the last straw that broke the camel's back.

Sorry to hear that...
That's enough to drive a man to drink...
I'd be lookin' for a way to do a good fix job on it.

Well, at least the one I recently broke wasn't checkered yet, but it was shaped, sanded, recoil pad, grip cap and glass bedded. Only about a $600 accident.

I feel your pain!
