My son has a left handed Savage 110, 338 Win Mag. There are problems when loading the magazine that also affects feeding reliability. Rounds placed into the magazine tip forward and even with jostling them around, don't get picked up reliably by the bolt into the chamber. This appears to be a 1970's vintage rifle, i.e., fit/finish a bit better than some of the economy 110's that later came out. It shoots good and we are prepping for a plains game hunt to Namibia in a couple months. Does this sound like a tired magazine spring? It's our only experience with a 110 and it has me concerned.

I'm definately not an expert, but I do have a 110. If you dont slide the cartridges all the way back in the magazine, the bolt passes over them.

Matt, I'm sorry you're having a problem. Does it fail to pick up a round when the mag is full, or only when there is a single round in the mag? Does it fail to feed when you work the bolt briskly, or slowly? George

Matt, my 70's era 110D did the same thing awhile ago, I replaced the follower and mag spring and every thing worked fine after that

It was screwing up with one in the mag or full. He described the front of the round angling down, and the rear of the cartridge not being up high enough to get picked up by the bolt. Ordered a new spring from Brownell today and that should sort the problem out.
