I have a M98 rifle in 30-06, made by browning, this last week I noticed that the rear of the action is much lower than the front, they used a mount of defferent thickness to kind of get it even for scope use, but I can still see a the rear one is lover by a few mm, I would just like to know is this normal or is there somthing wrong

Something is wrong flip. What bases are on the gun? It sounds like someone might have put a set of bases for a small ring Mauser on your gun instead of a set for a large ring Mauser. If you lay a machinest 6" scale on its edge on the front base extending rearward over the rear base the rear base should be parallel with the scale & just touching it like the front base. That 2 mm difference is a lot (.0787) The difference between a LR Mauser & a SR Mauser is .110. I think you got a miss matched set of rings. ------------------

Flip-- Almost all bolt action rifles have a rear bridge lower than the front ring. The mounts are made to compensate for it. It's perfectly normal.

Flip, there is a difference between the front and rear bridge as Jack said. On an argentine I just measured it is .150" +/- and on a small ring (Mexican) it is .080" =/-. As bearClaw mentioned, they may have put small ring bases on it. Chic
