Does anyone have any experience with the Bell & Carlson Medalist for the Mauser 98? It's the classic shaped stock with the aluminum block inside. Midway has a variety.

My specific questions are: is the stock a good value? and does it come cut out already for the side safety?

I'm concerned because my only experience with B & C was years ago, and at that time I wasn't impressed, as I remember. Also, if the side safety notch is already there, then to look right it will need to be filled back in, since I will be using the shroud safety.

Thanks,
KB

I have an FN Mauser project rifle with one of these stocks and really like it. It is not cut out for the side saftey. It usually takes a little tweaking to get your barreled action to fit but you can end up with a nice rig. These are a decent value and easy for a home gunplumber to work with.

I just received a medalist for a vz24 that I had a 264 win mag barrel screwed onto. IMHO it is a nice stock. Comes with a decelerator pad the only thing I had to do was inlet the barrel channel a little to accomodate a heavy barrel. Overall I am very happy with it. It does not have the notch for the side safety either.

It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it!

I had 1 on a VZ-24 in 458WM that cracked at the wrist after 30-40 rds. The Hogue w/Bedding block has held up to a couple hundered rds! clap

tsturm,

was the one that you had crack the one with the bedding block? I am very curious because having just got my first of these and being so far pleased, after some time I would like to replace the tupperware stocks on my 338 and 458 with the same stock. Did you call B&C for waranty replacement?

Yes it has the full block. That is all that is holding it together. It has about a 1/16" gap all the way arround the wrist, can see Alu. Roll Eyes I just threw it under the bench too pissed off to mess with it so far. The other prob. was, The top of the comb? was too high & the bolt hit when drawn all the way back. Witch I let B&C know about dancing Not Impressed. The only tupperware stocks I will use are Hogue or McMillan! Funny the best are at both ends of the $$ range beer Butler Creek in my opinion is a far better stock than B&C

I have had two. It tok some sanding and alot of glass but they worked on my 700s. Midway does not stock these, they are spec order 8-10weeks when I called a month ago. On Ebay a place called Stocky's in Fla had them cheap. I got mine on a make an offer bid and got it for dealer cost. They were great and it was in stock.

Mine is from Midsouth and I like it.....even though it's not wood....it's about $100 and works very fine.

I think they're equal or better than any factory supplied synthetic. At least, with their model without the aluminum block, B&C considers anything over a .30-'06 a "magnum" and you need to order it from the factory. If you order direct you can omit the pad, paint, and so on and finish to your own preference. Still, less work than a Brown Precision stock.

The Rimrock Mauser stocks with a bit of cast off fit me like a glove and they are almost nuke-proof. They also cost a lot more than the B&C.
