Barrel weight on a 700 short action ?

I have a Remington 700 short action that I want to build into a heavy barreled .308 Win. My question is this: Can I put a 26 inch long light varmint contour barrel that weighs 6lbs on this action? Will the 700 short action handle the weight? The action will probably go into either a McMillan or a H-S Precision stock.

I hang 27 1/2" long #7 contour barrels on mine with great results.

A 26" LV contour would be very similar to the factory Varmint or PSS models.

You'll have no problems.
