I was reading an article in Rifle last night about how to install a barrel band sling swivel. The process they used was to epoxy it onto the barrel. Is this the normal process? They mention that you can also soder them on but that can harm the barrel if not done correctly. Will the epoxy method be reliable? ****************************************************************** R. I think epoxy would work fine..... I always ask the question....."What happens if it fails"?.....answer.....nothing...a bit of irritation but the gun don't fall and it just needs to be fixed later. To me soldering means rebluing.....epoxy is for gun barrels already blued. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I was reading in the old NRA Gunsmithing Guide that one fellow used a certain type of Loc-Tite to put them on. Loc-Tite doesn't make that same number anymore but does make one that has 4-5000 lb. shear force and withstands temperatures to 400 deg. +. I've put several sets of NECG barrel band sites and Talley barrel band sling swivel hangers on with it. I have yet to have them blued but, if Loc-Tite's specs are true, I don't expect them to slip. I may, however, have them rust blued. "I ask, sir, what is the Militia? It is the whole people. Is anyone sodering them on any longer? ****************************************************************** R. If I were building up a new rifle, I'd have them soldered on. If I am adding a barrel band swivel stud to an already nice rifle not in need of refinishing, I'd epoxy it on. It's that simple to me. A shot not taken is always a miss | |||
