I would like to build a "varmint" rifle that looks like one of the "old timey" single-shots. I would like to buy a Ruger, rebarrel it to .219 Zipper Improved, and mount one of those looong high-powered scopes. I have the dies to form and load .219 Ackley w/28* shoulder and I have a Redfield 3200 20x that uses internal adjustments. The other part of the equation is that I'm not fond of the lever on the Ruger. I'd like to have another lever made, so that it would look like what I've seen on so many Ballards. It would also fit the pistol-grip so a Number 3 lever wouldn't work. Is there anyone that perform this work? Thanks ahead of time. Have fun' Gene

well i believe that altering the lever of the #3 is easier than the #1. the #1 lever actually locks into the added on trigger guard. the lever on the #3 has a detent plunger that actually locks into the action proper.

The lever doesn't have any tension when firing, so that, like the #3, finger pressure is enough to keep the action shut. I'd probably do away with the trigger-guard, and use the lever for a trigger-guard like the Ballard, and most other lever-actions. I'd use pillars on the screws. The lever would be made, not altered. I don't believe the Ruger lever can be welded, anyway. Can do? Havin' fun, Gene
