What is the best solvent for removing the plastic finish that Browning puts on the rifles. The stuff looks good but I'd rather have a softer less glossy finish. Jim

I've never tried it on a Browning, but scrubbing with 0000 steel wool has softened the sheen off of the Remington stocks I've used it on. - Dan

Paint and epoxy remover. Before you do that, rub it out with automotive rubbing compound backed with the finest steel wool you can find. Use a fair amount of water to create a creamy slury. This will make it look matt. Work lengthwise to the stock. Circular strokes will show more. [ 10-23-2003, 19:00: Message edited by: scot ]

I don't profess to be an expert on wood finishing but I have found it to be a real pain-in-the-ass to remove the glossy finish from gun stocks - probably because I am not an expert. ![]() [ 10-26-2003, 18:39: Message edited by: DOCTOR LOU ]
