Is anybody else going to the ACGG show in January? I noticed today that SCI has a show in Reno the same weekend and was wondering if it was worth trying to swing by the convention center to catch some of it, what do you all think?

hope to meet some of you there!

(PS, I hijacked my own thread and changed it all since the site won't let me post new topics to gunsmithing)

Dago,

The solvent would remove the wax, so if you needed to keep it on for protection you need to put it there every time. If they are just in your safe and go to the range try pledge, it goes on much easier if you aren't going on a week long trip somewhere.

Hairdryers work just fine, that is what everyone uses when the heat gun is in the garage and the wife is out shopping anyway.

Red,

I go to Reno for the SCI Convention, but the other two shows in town then are worth doing. The Firearms Engravers and Custom Gun Guild Show and the Bladesmiths Exposition are both running at the same time as SCI. You can do both in less than a day usually -- unless you get seriously interested in something or want to attend some of their seminars! [Wink]

I attended the ACGG show and the SCI Convention in Reno last January, and definitely plan to go back in Jan. 2004. Both were outstanding, and I recommend allowing a full day for each.

It is a definite "do not miss" for either. I don't think you can do justice to either show in only one day. I haven't missed the ACGG/FEGA in about 14 years or more. Last year they ran a special for people attending the ACGG/FEGA show; with your pass, the Safari Club would let you in on one particular day for around $30 if I remember correctly.

I agree with the above posts. If you are going to Reno SCI, don't miss the ACGG/FEGA show. I won't make it to Reno this year but will be in Vegas for the International & Antique Arms shows the week earlier.

wow! I just got off the phone with SCI, no discount as yet for those attending ACGG, so 100 bucks a day! they run wednesday through saturday.

I am a bit handicapped though since I have a fiancee, and yes, she is a handicap in this instance. she is a teacher so can't take time off like me. So what do I do, tell her she can't come :-( don't know about that. Would a full day at each show be enough? or should I just focus on ACGG this year and not tell her about it next year?

Thanks guys.

DagoRed,
You come over on Thursday and catch SCI on Friday. Have her come over on Friday night and stay thru Sunday. You can catch the guild show on Saturday and go to our banquet and auction on Saturday night then you have Sunday to get home.

I am getting used to explaining things to you. Now no excuses. [Big Grin]

Dagored,
Don't do it!!!! Chic is just trying to draw you into the dark side from which there is no return. Once you go to the ACGG show you will never understand how you made it this far in life without a safe full of guns built by such fabulous craftsmen. Combining that with SCI (also a must)and it will dawn on you that there is no point in having a safe full of custom rifles if you can't hunt all over the world with them. SCI has evrything you could possibly imagine and tons of stuff you can't even fathom. My wife had to drag me away as I was trying to convince myself that I really needed a bush plane.

You have to see both! You can't do SCI in one day. Two should be enough if you rush through.

ACGG can be one day if you have enough saliva to drool that long.

I can't comment on the banquet and Auction as I didn't attend these.

See you there. Maybe we could all meet at the ACGG on a certain day and time?

Skibum- too late, already being pulled in, sent off papers to join ACGG as an associate last week, tape is on its way here from brownells on checkering (that plus the tools I bought per Chic's recommendations, and the book I have should get me going).

Chic- the exlanations are much appreciated! :-) I talked to the fiancee and she is thinking about it right now, since it would just be her and I she is faced with slots by herself while I oogle the artwork. Probably be just me, which means the schedule you recommend will be the one I go for.

Maybe you can give me a bit more input if you have time. I have found a booking agent for when I do save enough money for a hunt, but am unsure if the guide she is recommending is going to work out, seems a bit too relaxed to me. Maybe take a look for me

The Agent The Guide [Wink]

Herb- I can't afford two days at SCI!!!! I do think it would be great if some of us could meet at somepoint, chat a bit and hang out.

Chic,
Sure hope Dagored's agent and guide are hunting Thomas Creek. That would give new meaning to bush plane [Eek!]

The offer to the ACGG from SCI last year came in the first day they opened. It required the ACGG pass and was for Fri and Sat, if I remember correctly.

T Leeds correct me if I am wrong.

It was not well known as It came out so late. It was to get more people into SCI. It also was good only if you were NOT a member of SCI already.

I do not know if they will offer it for the upcoming show.

It will take you at least 1 1/2 days to really look over the SCI show, There is something like almost 600 displays in it now.

You can not go wrong seeing these shows, just be sure of coming to the ACGG and bring a soft cloth to wipe the drool off.

Jim, I believe you're essentially correct. Initially, with an ACGG/FEGA badge issued by the show coordinators, SCI was allowing entry at a much reduced price on Friday only. They then extended it to Saturday since too many members had commitments at the ACGG/FEGA show. We had hoped they would do it on Thursday since the commitment level was low except for Executive Committee members. I do not know what or if anything is planned this year. An e-mail or call to ACGG and one could certainly find out.

Anyway, even if you have to pay full price to the SCI show, it is more than worth it. It's a wonderful experience and the $100.00 well spent. I even got to meet and chat with General Chuck Yeager a few years back, a delightful man.

I would also like to invite any SCI members to visit the ACGG/FEGA show, it is very complimentary to the SCI show.

Best to you.
