I will try to explain the problem without screwing it up. I just picked up a FN action. The guy I got it from (gunbrokers) put on a trigger w/safety. I'm assuming its a commercial trigger, its not marked timney, etc., with a notched cocking piece. Basically when I adjust it up so the safety works, and the trigger works fine, it is hard to open and the bolt will not slide back. So I loosened up the screw for the safety a tad and now the bolt opens fine but it fires when I put it on safe and the bolt still will not slide back. Matter of fact, only way I can get the bolt to slide back is if I remove the trigger (doesnt do me to much good in the field) or back off the set screw that keeps the trigger tight on the reciever and then the safety doesnt work. I always get timneys with out safeties and I have never had a problem adjusting them but this one is kicking my azz. Any ideas on what I am overlooking before I just buy a 2 pos safety and different trigger? Hello Joel I'd say the sear is riding up into the notch on bottom of the cocking piece and locking things up. I had exactly the same issue when I fitted a custom made trigger to my VZ-33 action. Many after market triggers such as the Parker Hale required such an un-notched cocking piece. You can either get a "commercial" cocking piece without the notch, or do as Rem 721 suggested to me when I posted up a request recently - drill and tap a small scew into the notch area (I also filled mine with epoxy to fill all the gaps). Another option is to solder a bit of metal in. Cheers - Foster

As mentioned above, it is probably a cocking piece problem. You probably have a cocking piece similar to "C", but your trigger needs a cocking piece like "A" or "B". S40 Youth and vitality are wasted on the young.

Thanks guys, I just tried to take shroud off the firing pin assy and I swear the guy had the cocking piece sweated on, it aint budging. When I picked it up at my FFL the firing pin assy wasnt in the bolt shroud so me thinks the guy had the same problem as I am having and gave up. I got a guy at work who I swear was born with the ability to do with anything with metal ie: welding etc. I'll have him hook me up. Now I just have to find away to get the cocking piece off. I would buy a surplus Daly or MKX part before I welded on the cocking piece. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

Actually Paul, I need to go to my smith this weekend, he called a few minutes ago and said my 416 is done. I'll let him mess with it. I dont know what this guy did with the cocking piece bit is not roating on the firing pin, it acts like its 1 solid piece. Just FYI: The MarkX cocking piece (or firing pin nut) is cast and is harder than the hobs of hell...Had a few failures (broke) they will benefit from drawing back
