I did a search and found some usefull information on 1935 chilean mausers (oberdorf)and have a few questions. I purchased an action and a complete rifle (ser.#26 on all parts) back when sarco had them. I built a 375 H&H out of the action and am now considering doing the same with the complete rifle. Is the rifle worth enough to preclude this. Any info is appreciated.

Welcome to the forum, scotd- This is really a personal value judgment. Financially, much would depend on the condition of the rifle. I have no recent figures, but I'd guess an all matching in very good to excellent condition would probably sell for somewhere around $1500, maybe more. My personal view is that it would be a crying shame to grind off the Mauser banner. flaco

Thanks flaco, You will be glad to know that the banner and all markings are still present on the 375 that I built. Just had the hump removed. I don't have a use for the complete rifle other than using it as a starting point for a custom as I am not a collector/dealer, just a hunter.

If you just want an action, I'll trade you a clean all-matching 1935 action for your complete rifle. A better deal for you would be to sell your complete rifle, buy an action from me and put the change towards your custom. Let me know. ______________________________ "Truth is the daughter of time." I'm hard hearted about turning military rifles into custom sporters, but I don't think I could break that one down. ______________________________ "Truth is the daughter of time." Francis Bacon

If it was mine, I could never obliterate the crest, or the banner (!) on the rear. ...but it ain't mine. are these 35's in 7 or 8mm?

that mauser banner on the rear is very cool, there is no way in hell that thing should be broken up, I say look for a commercial FN or something, that way the bolt handle and the safety will not have to be unless you want them to be. I am seeing 26 on several parts its looks like its likely that at least the important parts match, a beauty in times when one needs a rifle, he tends to need it very badly.....PHC

I'd probably keep it as-is but then again, that mauser banner would look too cool on a well done custom. Aut vincere aut mori

They're 7mm, tin can. That's part of the attraction. flaco N.B. I like your new Widmark avatar. LOL.

That's a sweet rifle as is. If you're looking for one to customize you might look at the 1909s or VZ-24s that have been already taken down from their original military configurations. There are a lot of folks who collect full military Mausers and that one would be better for that purpose IMO. John Farner If you haven't, please join the NRA!

If you are looking for another Oberndorf Action to build a Magnum on, I saw a 1909 Peruvian today that had the bolt opened up for a magnum and the job was perfectly done. bolt handle had been forged down and a that was perfectly done. it had been drilled and tapped for scope mounts but the Peruvian markings were still on it. Nice gun. They had a price of $350 on it. There is no way in hell I would chop that Chilean up.
