What's the difference between a Remington ADL and a BDL? I'm in the market to buy a second hand Remington to have it restocked and rebarrelled to 6.5-06. Are there differences between these two actions? If it is, which one is the better deal? regards, beefeater

The Rem BDL designation applies to better stock finish, better metal finish and bottom metal. The ADL has a blind magazine, while the BDL has bottom metal which opens to facilitate unloading the magazine. The actions are essentially the same. Some calibers are only offered in the BDL. For your use either action would do fine and, BDL bottom metal is available through several after market suppliers.

I'd only agree with one point here, the bottom metal. Since beefeater is looking at a used rifle, we need to include the "older" M700's. The walnut stocked ADL's are finished just like the BDL. Actually most of the ADL stocks are nicer because they don't have that bullet proof high gloss stuff on them like the BDL. And the walnut stocked ADL has the exact same action as the BDL. Now if you're talking about the newer synthetic models, yeah, the ADL has a matte finish, etc. Otherwise, to the root of the question, like eddieharren said, the actions are identical. You have a slight difference in magazine boxes to accomodate either the bottom metal or slightly different depth blind magazine, but if you are going to rebarrel & restock, whichever you find the best deal on will work fine.
