I am thinking at some stage I would like to have a .308 caliber rifle specifically for over the bonnet volume shooting of Aussie varmints. I was wondering if it is possible to ream out a cz 550 varmint .308 to 30/06. I like the 30/06 round and I have dies for it etc. I have found that on the open plains of N.S.W it is quite easy to place a 22/250 bullet from my vssf into the boiler room at 400 yards but on the bigger stuff it lacks the punch. My Ruger 30/06 probably can be considered a 250 yard rifle (it's my general purpose beater. If this mod can't be done then I will just probably leave it as a .308 win, but I feel the 30/06 may have a little flatter trajectroy than the .308 win, and why can't a 30/06 rifle be as accurate as a .308 win at any rate ?? The Americans used the 30/06 round as there sniper round in WW11 didn't they ??

Check the action length. The 30-06 is 12mm longer than the 308Win's (7.62x63 vs 7.62x51)

Tailgunner I am pretty sure that the 30/06 length action cz use is also used for there .308. Ah well I suppose I can try and shoot the barrel out and the rebarrel to 30/06. Mr Belk, how much rabge do you feel a 30/06 has over a .308 if any and can 30/06 rifles (all things being equal) shoot as accurately as a .308 then ??
