Absolutely, I've seen some incredibly beautiful Myrtlewood stock blanks. Same goes for birdseye but the cost of stockwork is the same for any piece of wood and in the end it just ain't walnut.

It's purely a matter of personal taste.

Here is what the 300 looks likes after almost a half a century and tung oil applied.
