I have a new in the white Santa Barbara standard length action. I am thinking of barrelling it to the new Ruger .375 (when reamers become available) Some people think these actions are OK, others say they are a POS I would like some first hand experiences / opinions. The rifle would be a hunting gun, not a custom, but of decent quality. Rick

On going discussion https://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/9411043/m/715109235 Don't know what you are paying but I would not cut to many corners on the action. I would go FN then MKX and even a Daly before I would spend the moeny to build a rifle on a Santa Barbara. Buy a rifle if you can't find an action and sell the parts you don't need. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

Yep, what he said! Oh, and the reason why is that SB has a past history of problems with their receivers. Some were too hard. These were essentially flame hardened and by eye to boot. Flame hardening would be ok, but only under controlled conditions. Many actions were recalled but not all were taken off the market. So, there is no telling what you are likely to get. For my piece of mind, and to perhaps keep it and the rest of me intact, I'll pass.
