What would you consider optimum barrel length for this round (25-06)? 24,25,26"?

depends on what you're doing. If it's a bench type gun that isn't going to be carried, you can use 26-30" easily. 25/06 is close enough to being overbore that you need all the barrel you can get to burn slow burning powders. If you're carrying it then shorten it up and go to faster burning powders

Agree.
One thing that needs to be factored in is the intended use of the rifle. If it works for you, I think that a 26 inch barrel on a 25/06 makes sense.

Personal preference is another issue.....My .25-06 has a 22" barrel.....same as my .270 and .30-06 and I like it that way.....absolutely nothing I ever shot knew the difference!!!
