Jeffe's stock duplicator is amazing. I watched it and him in action a few weeks ago, high quality all around. It'd be good to find a Whitworth stock to be cloned. Jeffe, I think you'd find some takers now that replacements are depleted and Charles Daly actions are around. Mine is too pretty to get scratched up, maybe Rusty will donate his. Bob
I don’t know Jeff so this isn’t a plug for a buddy, but just from reading his postings on here and viewing the pictures of his machine and the stocks he has done, I would feel really confident that he would NEVER mail out a stock that he wouldn’t use on his own rifles.
The only other place I would consider is Biesen‘s. I’ve never bought one of their stocks but I use their buttplates and grip caps and I would be really surprised if they would send out a stock that wasn’t made with the same precision, care and detail as their buttplates and grip caps, which in my opinion are among the best out there.

Rick, Biesens have a North Star duplicator and they used to turn blanks for people. I do not know if they still do. Al had a stroke and I doubt if he is up to his old speed or if he ever will be again. I suspect that Roger is very busy.
Boyd Boys and wenig also will sell you a 95% stock.

Chic,
Last time I ordered butt plates from Roger they were still doing stocks because he offered to inlet a trap door butt plate and my barreled action for me on one of their stocks. That was last year some time.
Sorry to hear about Al...that whole family are some of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet and their stock hardware is incredible in my opinion.

I'm on the hunt for a lefthand thumbhole stock for my Encore. I had the idea today to buy a full stock from Richards and then cut the front of it off and inlet the butt for the attaching bolt, et cetera. What do you think of this idea? Virgin Valley is out of business, so that's not an option. They did offer a very nice one, though.

Isn't Bullberry still around? I thought they sold thumbholes too. I see piles of them at the gunshows around Houston, too. Gook luck if you try cutting a full stock. I think you would need a stock cut for prone shooting like a tactical profile to have the right angle through the grip.

Jeffe usually has a few blanks around or has access to some. If you particularly want someone from Fajen's, then try ShowMe Gunstocks in Warsaw, MO..Donny Gemes bought most of Fajen's patterns and has blanks. I don't think they have a website so you'll have to phone them. I'd give Jeffe a try if I were you. Good luck!
Good hunting,
Andy

ramrod340, Fred Wenig was the foreman at Reinhardt Fajen when it closed down. The company did not go into bankrupcy, but only liquidated it's assets. They tried to sell the RF name at the acution but no one would meet the min bid. Larry Potterfield (Midway) and some friends were the owners of RF. So much for the trivia.
I have heard a lot of good comments from customers of Wenig in recent years.
FWIW, I talked to someone at Boyd's last week as I was interested in one of their laminated stocks for a Montana 1999 SA left-handed. The person I spoke to impressed me as not knowing much of anything about stocks; put me on hold to see if they made stocks for left-handed Montana actions and came back to tell me it would be "around $350" for a stock they sell in right-handed for $65. I don't think I'd go to Boyd's for anything; there's too many other companies to choose from.

Rick, It has been several years since Al had his stroke. You are correct about them, they are as nice as they come. They usually have a good supply of wood, it is kept in an old coal storage area.
Ineresting note, the "shop" is in Al's basement and all the machinery was loaded into the basement through a large trap door in the front porch that was the coal chute for the original furnace. They have milling machnes, stampiong machines for their butt plate business, metal lathes, engraving pantagraphs for lettering and their duplicator down there that will not fit up the stairs. Al told me that his wife asked, some years ago, if they could extend the house walls to include the covered porch and in the process the contractor nailed down the chute and carpeted the area. That access is long gone. Al said that they got a laugh out of it because they didnt even consider the consequences but said that Roger would just have to carry on in his basement.
I'm going to be in MO in two weeks for a family reunion. As it calculates I'll be within an hour+/- of both Wenig and Show-Me. So I think I will set up a little field trip.
As usual just my $.02 Paul K

You have some facinating stories to tell about many of the gunamkers you are or have been acquainted with. How about a book???
Ramrod, I was at Jeffe's also, haven't put the handles, names, and faces together yet. Any luck on your Whitworth yet? I couldn't be more pleased with mine. We're getting quite a collection of these among the AR posters from Houston. Bob
