looking for M98 bottom metal
Where can I find a hindged floor plate for a custom project. I have a military action with the standard "fixed" magazine and would like to convert it to be able to unload it through the bottom.

your best bet might be Ebay. Your second best bet might be Auction Arms.

If you want to go a more expensive route, you can contact Sunny Hill or Blackburn. In a few months Williams might have something as well.

And finally, you can take the bottom metal that came with your action and convert it over, but you have to make or buy the parts and fit them on. Wisner sells a 1909 Argentine straddle floorplate that you might be able to modify.

I hope Williams or someone else will start offering hinged bottom metal for Mausers at more competitive prices and that isn't always on backlog.

The bottom metal from the Zastavas fit many '98 Mausers...has anyone tried to order replacement parts from Daly or now Remington to use it on their project?

Seems I heard $60 for the whole shebang.

Numrich sells a decent one. It's been much maligned here and elsewhere as junk, but that is untrue. I purchased one several years ago. It need to be staightened. There was an upward bend between the floor plate and the trigger guard. I heated it and straightened it. Problem solved. The metal finish on it is not the best but if you're using it for a project rifle, you're going to refinish it anyway. Right? For less than $100, it's well worth the money.

Yes, it's not junk, yes, it requires work, and I think that with a wisner floorplate, they can be made to be worth having...

you have to bend them to get them straight, REQUIRES a torch, you have to drawfile the bow, to get it anywhere NEAR to flush with the release, and you'll send alot of time filing, sanding, stoning out the seams...

but once that's done, it's nearly as good as a $150 markX bottom.

Only issues I have with the late MKX and Daly is I HATE that cross pin release.

You might try Davis May yamyor38@pld.com had a number of Daly barreled actions he was parting out.

As usual just my $.02
