I guess I just want to blow a little steam, but
I had some work done on my rifle, about $500 worth.... I was called and told the work was finished, I was charged (MasterCard) on the first. The rifle was supposed to be shipped that day, either UPS or Fedex that day.... The tracking numbers were to be emailed that day. Guess what, It's the 12th, not shipped, no tracking numbers.... No contact from gunsmith?
Am I justified in getting antsy, upset, mad, etc?????

It's time to call him but it's also time to be polite too. Don't get bent till he deserves it. Communication is a two way street.

Or maybe he found something that he had overlooked. In any case, a call is in order.

Do you really need someone to confirm how you should feel, or, what you should do?

As customers we are stuck between a rock and a hard place. We want to be kept in-the-loop, but we don't want to become a "PITA customer" to our gunsmith.

The last thing any of us want is for our GS to think, "Not this A-hole again!" when our number comes-up on his caller ID.

I guess he just wants to know if he is being over-anxious.

After 12 days of paying the bill and being told it was shipping the same day, and not receiving the item or being able to make contact with the gunsmith I might begin to feel a little anxious. That type of feeling doesn't require a consensus. Deciding where to go from here might.

You might try to contact a local shop in his area to see if they (a) know the person, (b) are aware of any circumstance that might explain the delay, or, (c) if they could try to make contact for you. If he answers their call but not yours, then go to alternate plan "B". At this point you should begin to boil.

IMO ; It doesn't do any good to get nasty or upset . Simply contact an inquire as to the progress

as you were under the impression it was finished .If something came up be understanding things do happen .

When is the time to get nasty , Well when you're out the money Gun and the Phones been disconnected

then let the Police and or lawyer handle it !. Just my opinion .

Remember when you deal with a couple of the above previous posters

That kind of stuff doesn't factor into the equation !!!. tu2

No it wasn't..... Listen I know this outfit "Small" 2+ people is extremely busy and in business for a long time. Very well know for one type of weapon, I don't want to name them yet. They have this pattern though. I almost wish I could help them, this kind of service no matter how good the job is done could catch up with them.... The net goes a long way.....

Jeez this is easy.
just call them up and asked if its shipped yet, don't decide how mad you are or are gonna get or what may have happened just ask the questions and decide when you get the answers.
More shit gets stirred up when people "wonder" and "worry" about "what if" before they have first hand information.
Besides all the worry and drama isn't worth it lifes to short to always worry about the "maybe's and what if's" just go with the facts.

Well,
My engraver got my rifle to me today. He finished it a month ago. His housekeeper sent it to the wrong person. After he got it back he was in the hospital for a week. Supposed to have been mailed again first of last week.
My son called and said it arrived today. I never had a problem with the engraver or mistrusted him. I knew he lived by himself and is not in good health. His phone is temporarily shut off. I'm really worried about him and do not know who to contact to check on him.

I wouldnt worry about it until you got the bill from MC.
Then if the piece is not at your house dispute the charges.
Bet you a case of beer the smith will call you up in a couple of days.

Gunsmiths are a "special" breed and we can't hold them to the same standards as we would our plumbers, electricians, mechanics or ourselves. When dealing with gunsmiths you are required to ignore the standard customer/vendor protocol and put up with all types of dishonesty and shenanigans.

If I were AI22-250 I would take that bet in a heartbeat!

A gunsmith calling their customer after they have the money in hand?

First thing to do is just pick up the phone, press the correct numbers and try to talk, politely, with the gunsmith. If that fails then you can look into other options.

I am one of those guys who had a gunsmith that let a project take a 2 year nap at his place.

For some reason we huddle in front of the remote cave where these hermits dwell. We rejoice when they appear, uttering a few words about how we should leave them alone.

Waving an unfinished gun part in their artisan hands as they turning back into their caves the monastic creatures shout one final "Go away! Can't you see? I don't have time to be bothered with these silly questions about how you want your firearm to look. I decide how it will look! It's your job to shut up and pay up!It'll be ready when it gets to your FFL, not a year before! Don't call me! I'll call you, maybe?" Eeker Big Grin

Best thing to have in this world is a gunsmith who answers the phone. A gunsmith who has time to talk to you. A gunsmith who completes work on schedule!

I'm not going to take your bet..... The tracking numbers showed up in an email, along with an explanation and an apology. I was told that my email to them was very apropriate and that it was there hope that we would remain solid friends...... The trouble is, I knew why it hadn't shipped, But I had be promised that it HAD been shipped, now everything is right in the world, that is until midterm elections.... lol I simply needed to vent...
thanks.....

Consider that 100s of folks here (including me) had their credit cards swiped (charged) about three years ago for our Montana PH Actions, which have not yet been shipped. I realize that this is a different situation because you had work done rather than purchase anything, but still, a month isn't all that long.

Recent credible research from different major universities suggests that cancer may be promoted by periods of depression and anger.

So if you never receive the package, forgive the person for his grievance, forget about it, and move on. But be sure to let everyone here know who it is so that nobody else gets burned.

Generally speaking I agree. However, over the past several years I haven't had those problems. It's much easier now with internet forums to weed those guys out. Toomanytools has treated me very well on some barrel and metal work and Jim Kobe has squared up a couple blanks for me on his mill. This is a "small" job but for me priceless as squaring up a blank with my planes for some reason turns into nuclear engineering. I also have a local guy who is very good.

22wrf, I only get depressed an angry when I sit on my hands and let myself get screwed. I wish the Montana people great luck with their product but at the same time saw you and the other 99 folks getting exactly what you've received to date with the PH actions. Demanding what you paid for doesn't cause Cancer, I assure you. Smiler

You need to FORGET that you have been screwed (unless it was a good screw), and not sit there on your hands and think about it.

I am not saying one should not attempt to work out a situation such as the one described above. By all means the poster should take some action to satisfy himself that he has done what he can to protect himself. But there comes a time when it is time to move on.

I would not have been upset, except that I was told by someone I consider a friend that the Weapon HAD already been shipped.... I just don't like being held as a fool..... But all is forgiven, everything is ok, and we are all happy...... and I don't care if this made it's way back to the Smith, I've said nothing that wasn't a fact or that should upset the Smith....

No, a gunsmith finding out the money was pulled out of his checking account by MC.
