I need something like a mod 57 Lyman. I had an extra Remington for their Mod 37, but misplaced it. I have plenty front sights. It will be installed on my Rolling Block. I do not want a tang sight.
Help please.

I think it may be a Lyman 66 (flat side) sight that you are looking for. 57's are for rounded receivers unless rolling blocks have enough curve to mount one?

You are correct on the Lyman. I believe Redfield has a Mod 75 that might work also.

You could try calling or emailing Erv at Western Gun Parts on Monday there Ole Timer. He has a whole menagerie of new and used receiver sights. I doubt that he has any old Palmas left but you could ask.

When I was a kid. I had the stick. I had the rock. And I had the mud puddle. I am as adept with them today, as I was back then. Lets see today's kids say that about their IPods, IPads and XBoxes in 45 years!

The Redfield 75 mounts on to an adapter block much like a Redfield Olympic, Lyman 525 etc. That may be a good option as it is either going to work As-Is or you make a block to mount it on.

I may have the appropriate mounting block, but in any case it would be easy to fabricate.

Well Rod, Erv is not in today. His helper said he had nothing for me that would fit my Rolling Block. I told him I could fabricate a mount or maybe I had one in my Million Dollar Box. He said to look at the Williams catalog. I told him thanks and I'm moving on.

If you can't speak to Erv, there isn't much point to the call. He spent years collecting used and obsolete guns and parts and likely has a full catalog in his head. For the youngsters though, if it doesn't show up on the computer screen, it doesn't really exist. Regards, Bill

Billy is right Butch. I worked for Erv for a lot of years and Bill has been buying parts from him for just as long. I love old Erv to death but he can be maddening sometimes. He's a mix between a computer, dotty old woman and a packrat. He squirrels all the good stuff away and even his son doesn't know quite whats in that warehouse sometimes. No fault to Jeff, he's gotten damned good at the business but Erv could have kept the Manhattan Project from the Russians for an additional 40 years if he had been in charge. I'll be over there for parts some time this week and I'll put the thumb screws to him. If he has anything that looks good I'll take some JPGs and post them or send them to you.

Do gunsmith ever put stop screws on the outside of the crossarm to strengthen sights like this? One of my kids fell over and bent the arm down towards the receiver. I've rezeroed it but it looks crap.

I was over at WGP and spoke to Erv this morning Butch. All of the old peckerheads like you, me and dpcd finally cleaned him out of all that nice old stuff. At one time he had an entire hollow tree filled with old Palmas and other Redfield and Parker Hale receiver sights. Nothing lasts forever I guess.
