This i MY way of get copper out with Sweets.

I first clean the barrel with bronze brush and Kroil/Shooters choice to get the powder fouling out. Then I use a nylon brush to apply sweets to the barrel. I make a few passes with the soaked brush and leave the barrel fore 3-4 min. Then I put a clean patch thru to check the amount of copper in the bore. I repeat this process untill the patches come out clean.

If the patches is really blue and the fouling are heavy I turn to a abrasive product like Rem clean, UPS bore paste or similar.

Good luck getting the copper out!

Stefan.

[I try to use the sweets in the barrel as little time as possible, but sometimes it takes a few applications to get the fowling out. I then like to Kill the sweets with Hoppes.

I was told that it is prety harsh on barrels but it works.

Actually, you would find it easier to use Pro Shot Copper Solvent IV from proshotproducts.com. It works very well and their is no smell to it.

Most important : POINT THE MUZZLE SLIGHTLY DOWNWARDS.

Sweet's leaves a film when dry, you don't want to let it flow back and get into actions.
Better yet, poke a clean patch out of the bore, then apply the solution to the patch.

Sweet's are best used after powder fouling is gone, clean out oil-based solvents to provide a good working surface for water-based Sweet's. Vise versa, if additional oil-based powder solvent is required again, clean out water-based Sweet's to provide a good working surface for oil solvents.

After cleaning with sweet's, I use a clean patch to remove it from the bore, then use a
patch of Hoppe's to displace remaining sweet's, Like PC said If it's clean enough, I remove Hoppe's with 2 clean patches, then oil or keep shooting.

A sidenote is that Sweet's really cools down a hot barrel : When ammonia is liberated from aquatic solutions, it takes a lot of heat with it, but it sure stinks.
