Recently purchased a Winchester Classic 70 in 338 WM. It has dual dovetail bases front and rear but with what appears to be 8-40 screws. The bases and rings front and rear are exactly the same, no rear with windage screw. Are the screw heads on 8-40 and 6-48 the same? The 8-40 measure .0170 across the threads? The bases appear to be Leupold. When you re-thread to 8-40 what do you get for bases with correct head size and hole diameter?
