I'm looking at a 1949 21H Carbine, 20" barrel, 7MM Mauser. Condition is original and good, around 90%. Double set triggers and a one-piece BRNO mount and scope. How rare or common is this rifle and what is the going price for these today.

If its all orignal its not super rare but they don't come up that often. 7mm is a desirable caliber for that rifle...I would say $800-1100 is aboutmarket price. The guy to ask is KurtC who posts here. Mike Legistine actu quod scripsi? Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue. What I have learned on AR, since 2001: 1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken. 2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps. 3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges. 4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down. 5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine. 6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle. 7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions. 8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA. 9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not. 10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact. 11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores. 12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence. 13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

Why a 1949? those are the ones without the bridges, right? I see them come up for sale from time to time. I would have to disagree with Mike on the price though. They're seem to be getting more expensive all the time. -------------------------------------------- Well, other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Barrel and receiver dates are dated '49. Receiver is the later type however with the double square bridges.

Prices are always relative to where one see's them for sale. When I see them in 90% or better condition they start at $1000 and $1500 is not unheard of. Altered examples will fetch less. Aut vincere aut mori

If you insist, I am Irish you know...and German. Now, when someone sees a clean M21/22 action but butchered stock, etc., for sale let me know. Aut vincere aut mori

This rifle I'm considering is clean (pictures) and not modified. Has an old and interesting BRNO one piece steel mount that utilizes the bridges. The carbine length is attractive. Bore is good, butterknife bolt handle. Wood is a little darker. Some blueing loss due to normal carry-wear but nothing out of the ordinary.

Just trying to stay with the theme of this board lately. BTW, did you get my package? Terry -------------------------------------------- Well, other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

I would say somewhere around 1K on the top end. Blueing wear indicates it's been used a lot. Now keep in mind though I'm the type person that wouldn't let a $100 keep me from owning a rifle I really wanted. It's kinda hard to price shop rare items sometimes. Sure did. That sturdy box didn't even get dented where the UPS truck ran over it. Aut vincere aut mori

Terry why don't you help me get this back on track by posting some pictures of Model 21s that you have stashed in your gun porn library and/or safe.

Approximately 40K Brno 21H/22Fs were made between 1946-1955, about half of those the more desirable integral bridge versions with guide ribs (1949-1955). For comparision, about 550K pre-64 M-70s were made, about 127K Oberndorf sporters, if my memory serves me. Not many were imported in the USA and the more desirable 7x57s are not all that common either. About $1000-$1500 is the going rate for unaltered NRA VG-Exc. The all-steel one-piece factory Brno scope mount is fairly scarce, at least stateside. Beware of altered bolt handles. NRA Life Member, Band of Bubbas Charter Member, PGCA, DRSS. When you think of all the effort & expense that would be required to make a mock replica of the action $1000 seems cheap. Aut vincere aut mori
