If any of you folks use the Doiron tool, which power source do you use? Foredom, air, Doiron electic?

Which source would you recommend?

TIA

I have the version that uses the Foredom tool. If I had to do it over I'd try something else. I don't particularly care for the long heavy cord sticking out the back of the tool. I think the air version would be much lighter, the electric?....................DJ

I have the Dioron electric. Both left and right handed heads. I have used the MMC Cable drive and while it works it is not near as comfortable or smooth. For the guy who only checkers a few guns a year its probably fine.

I just finished checkering my 85th stock for the year and I can tell you that with the MMC I would not be having near as much fun. Too much vibration.

I spoke with Jon Dioron about the air driven tool and he advised me against it. He said "You wont get any smoother than the electric tool". You also dont have a compressor to deal with or the noise associated with it.

DJ,

Im not familiar with the Foredom air tool....only the elctric. Might be worth a call to foredom to find out. Might sound like a dumb question but. Does the air hose hook up to the back of the checkering tool head? The electric ones are cable driven

Like, they can come loose and wreak havoc on a stock at the most inopportune time?

I've only used hand tools but when I asked about power tools I was told the collets can come loose.

Collets wear and these are no different. If you use the tool a lot the collet will wear.

DJ, if your foredom uses an MMC checkering head, it is already electric but driven on the fleixible shaft from the motor. The Dorion has an electic motor in the handle and just an chord out of the handle to your power source.

BTW, were you just pulling our leg? Smiler

Chic, Mine is the Doiron that uses the Foredom as it's motor, sorry about the earlier abbreviation. I haven't used it much since I don't like wresting with the thick drive shaft hanging out the back of the tool.
I think I'd like the electric model a lot better....................DJ
