After a 2 year quest for a poor man's 338 Lapua, it's done. Purchased a new Sake TRG-S in 338 lapua, sent the action to Pac-Nor for a fluted #7 contour 27" barrel. Then sent the barreled action to Robar for some nickle plating. Thanks to Rod at Serengeti, I obtained bottom metal. Then it was off to McMillan for a new stock. Here's the pics.

Man what a gear shifter that thing has. Just kiddin. Great looking rifle for the type. With all the work you have had done to it I wouldnt necessarily call it a poor mans 338 either.

bluetick, that 'gearshifter' is the result of a broken original. When the stock bolt handle broke I realized that it was just threaded onto the bolt. A quick trip to the machine shop & $50 later & voila. Yes, it became more expensive than I had planned but compared to some of the $5000 rigs, it is cheap.

Nifty! It is amazing that until now, the lack of the bottom metal apparently was what held up customizations like this. To me, this seems a bunch more attractive than the standard TRG. How does it shoot? - mike

Very cool. We've several projects in-house on the TRG. And bought another stock rifle on spec. One of them is a 340 Weatherby that will replace my 8mm Rem when complete. I'm building a new bolt handle for that one as the factory handle shape makes no sense. Too short and straight. It barely clears the scope on my 8mm, which is perplexing as the bolt is a 3-lug 60 degree lift. When at battery, the handle sticks out of the stock and is too far from the triggerguard. As KTG said, a simple fix to spin one up on a lathe and screw it in. Bend it to the right angle.
