I bought a Remington VSSF in 25/06.I had a Ruger 25/06 that I sold and already had some shells that were fireformed to the Ruger's chamber and loaded.I thought I would try the rounds in the VSSF and see if they would chamber in it alright so I could go to the range tomorrow and fire them. The first 2 rounds chambered alright and they had 120 grain Sierra bullets(not that I think it matters).I tried one that was loaded with 85 grain Ballistic Tips and the bolt would not close. But here is the kicker,I can not get the bolt to pull back eithet to eject the shell. The lugs look to be lined up but I can not get the bolt back. What is going on?Please help!

My guess is the bullet may have been seated too long, and engaged the rifling when the bolt cammed shut. You might try putting a rod down the barrel and driving the bullet in a few thousandths, but if you do, need I say be careful?

Better yet, wait for one of the experts here to give better imput.

Well,I finally covered the bolt with a towel and pecked on it with a hammer and it came out.The case was scratched a little so it must be that the chamber is tighter on the VSSF than it was on the Ruger.I tried some factory loads and they chambered fine.I tried a factory case that had been fired in my dad's BDL and it would not chamber either. This thing must have real tight tolerences. What do you guys think?

NEVER PUT A ROD DOWN THE BARREL AND TRY TO HAMMER OUT A LIVE ROUND.
At least 1 maybe 2 benchrest shooters have been killed this way. In one case I think the wife was killed. these events happened in front of witneses. The round fired and drove the cleaning rod out of the bbl and caused death.

My best guess would be that your Ruger chamber was towards the "max" end of the caliber specs, while the Remington was towards the "min". Hard to believe, but if you add up enough 1/1000ths of an inch, they do make a difference.

Included in the "No No's" would be running this loaded ammo through a die to get them to fit in the Rem, as I hope you already knew.
