How do I remove the bolt shroud and safety from a Yugo M48? I am wanting to install a new bolt shroud without a safety and use the Timeny w/ side safety.

Thanks,

Jesse

Ensure the gun is UNLOADED . . . (Duh!)

Cock the bolt. Put the safety lever in the 12 O'Clock position and remove the bolt.

Behind the bolt handle at the 9 O'Clock position theres a button/rod that faces forward, extending out of the shroud. Depress this button and unscrew the shroud counter clockwise. Once this button clears the bolt body about one full turn, it no longer needs to be depressed. There are two spots were it needs to be depressed to clear the body and release the shroud.

Once you remove the shroud from the body, the firing pin is removed by securing the flat on the pin with a wrench/vise, etc and turning the shroud counter-clockwise.

The pin is under a fair amount of spring tension! It's not going to "explode" on you, but it does push itself apart when it releases.

I know there's a means to removing the safety lever. I think it's pretty obvious, but I'd have to look at it again.

Let me know if you need more help. There are Mauser resources all over online that I can get to fast.

OK?

McBain---

With the bolt in the rifle and cocked, move the safe to the vertical position. Now, take the bolt out of the action and push in on the shroud lock pin on the left side and unscrew the entire shroud/firing pin assembly.

Hold on to the shroud and place the tip of the firing pin in a recess or hole to stabalize it and push down on the shroud until the tip of the cocking piece clears the back of the shroud. It'll take 25 pounds of pressure to do it. Hold it in that position while turning the cocking piece 90 degrees and lift it off the firing pin. Release the pressure on the shroud gently and remove the shroud from the firing pin.

The safety will slip right out when lined up to the right side.
