Hello,

I want to know if it is possible to re-thread a Mauser 98 Standard threaded barrel to a Peruvian small thread without any other modification.
And, also, is the Peruvian barrel thread the same as in the Small Ring M93/96?

Thank you!

PH

Their both 12tpi so just turn the large ring 98 barrel threads to the smaller OD. Track the threading tool in what is left of the old threads that still remain & cut to proper depth. Of course you will have to headspace adjust the headspace.

Concerning the OD there are no problems.

But you should have in mind that the peruvian thread is longer.

So it depends on the length and OD of the barrel shank if there is enough meat to switch from standard mauser thread to small thread.

Yup. Unless you have shortened the receiver ring.

Same thing I did to my 91 to put a .220 swift barrel on it. The tenon is longer so with proper set up it's an easy conversion.

And when you do that you have what is classified as "Reduced Intermediate action".
Has been done in Oberndorf.
There are a few examples around.

Yeah but it Should be obvious when you go to head space the rifle. If you are using a depth mic to measure from the receiver ring face to the bolt face and then on the barrel a head space to the face of the breach You'd see very quick how much case is unsupported. It may cost you another setup but at least it's a steel safe mistake

Thank you all!!!
Yes, I forgot to mention the longer tenon. But the barrel I have and will use has enough material to lenghten the threaded section!
By the way, the Mauser M1891 has exactly the same lenght and diameter of the threaded section than the Peruvian M 1909?
