Has anyone opened up a mauser box mag to fit a longer case than 8mm mauser? I am in the process of building two FN Mausers. One in 338WIN MAG and one in 264 WIN MAG. Both are chambered, headspaced, bolts bent, drilled and tapped.Bolt faces, feed rails, extractor, and mag enlargement still has to be done. Thanks for your replys in advance. Les.

Depends how much you need to open them up. IIRC commercial FN's are opened to the front only. To match that I would weld a small piece of flat stock to the front of the box and remill it out to match the reciever's opening. Don

I can mill out the VZ24 enough for 300 Win Mag.
Or buy a light weight Aluminum trigger guard:

The 1903 Turkish Mausers were already cut and brazed to be longer when modified in 1938 from 7.65x53 to 8x57. I can't make them any longer.

On modifying the feed rails, make up dummy cartridge with pointed tips, not round tips. Get the gun to feed and eject upside down.

Thank you for the reply. I haave done a few of the mauser actions in the past with very little work required to feed rails etc. Spanish 93 rebarrel to 7x57 Douglas barrel. FN 8mm to 25-06 with a midway barrel. The new 264 and 338 will be another learning exoerience.I guess it is true"never to old to learn" Thanks again. Les

The magazine Brownells sells sounds like the old Williams Gun Sight company trigger guard. It is also an alloy that is painted. I plan on rust bluing my mauser projects. Les.
