what color buttpad on a Mod 70 Super Grade?
I am looking at a Mod 70 super grade. The seller is unsure of the year model, but it is(supposedly) new in box, but it has a red buttpad on it. Anybody have any info on that? Looking at the Win website the super grade III has a black pad. The rifle still has tags on it and the box is in the picture, so I doubt it has been worked on.

I have a M70 Super Grade that was a gift to me a few years back that has a red pad. Its solid, with stippling on the wear surface. Nate

I really can't remember seeing a black one until I just looked at their website and everything has a black pad.

Red was the usual color for production Winchesters once. Maybe they changed recently.

FWIW,
I have a M70 from their custom shop, a Shot Show Special Edition 1 0f 100, circa '01 and it has a red butt pad.

The 1949 Super Grade .375 H&H I had was equipped with a red pad. It said WINCHESTER across it..... The pre-64's had the year of manufacure stamped on the underside of the barrel just in front of the receiver ring.

It also had a receiver bridge with NO drilling/tapping for a scope mount. This rifle had a Jaeger QD side mount that held a 2.5X Lyman Alaskan.......

no...it's not safe to say....it actually doesn't mean anything. They change parts like their undewear.
