Could someone make a recommedation for stockmakers. I have a winchester model 70 stainless with a laminate stock and I wanted to replace the stock with a nice dark walnut.I really like the look . How much would one expect to pay for the work if the wood was provided? I don't want an exhibition type gun, but just a nice looking one.
Also I considered taking some wood off the laminated stock by drilling holes in the butt, but was afraid that this might cause splitting. If not, how do I go about this? What size bits, where to drill, ect.
My main goal is lighten this setup some, because ready to hunt it comes in at about 11 pounds. The 21 oz. burris scope isn't helping much but I Thought I'd start with the stock.
One more question. What is the expected life of a model 70 action. Just curious.
Hey' If you go tmy site, you can most likely find a stockmaker in your area,or several. In key words just type in stock, and city and state. 1geejay www.shooting-hunting.com
