vapodogObviously Jesse hasn't heard about all the stresses that will be relieved from poor quality barrels after they're machined full length of the barrels.....He GUARANTEES accuracy!!!
Remember the "Chicken Little" "Sky is falling" recontouring thread of a week ago?
What a bunch of weenies!!!!!

Bent Fossdal145 dollars seems ubelievable cheap? The equipment can not be cheap, and it must take at least 3 hours?
Reboring is hardly done in Europe at all.

I've had several rebore jobs done by the old A&M Rifle Company of Prescott AZ. Each time it took close to 18 months to get them back, but they did shoot well! These were on Model 1886 and M71 Winchesters being rebored from calibers like .33 WCF to .45/70 (M'86), and .348 Win. to .450 Alaskan.
I have heard more reports of BETTER accuracy after reboring than reports of problems due to stress relief!

prof242Wonder if he'd do Browning levers and autos? Think about a .375 on -06 or WSM cases! Or, a .375 Taylor/.416 Taylor!

Does that price include rechambering, or is that extra?

Most European gun houses send their guns here for a rebore. Cliff LaBounty did a lot of business with Holland and Holland and others resurrecting double rifles with abused bores. Jim Dubell bought Cliff's business but I don't know what the demand for double rebores is these days.

Usually extra; reboring is done in a purpose-built machine and rechambering requires setting up in a lathe.

fireball168I don't know...but I've been told, LaBounty was chambering on a mill on some of the rebored barrels(probably doubles).

Have you stopped to consider the why's of reboring? How many perfect barrels are rebored? Not many, most are in some need of fixing. Bores that are in less than perfect condition due to wear, tear or plain old neglect. I've ssen quite a few .32 specials and .30-30's that were just flat shot out. No crown to speak of due to cleaning. These wer moslt taken out to .38-55 and lo and hehold, they shot good. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to see that stresses had nothing to do with this. Hell, even if stresses were unleashed, what on earth would you use as a point of reference? How can you compare a shot out barrel with no crown to one with a new bore and new crown?

I tried to call and get some more info, but I got the voice mail. The way the ad reads the price does include rechambering. It lists specific cartridges, not just bore diameter.
If I like what I hear when I talk to them, I'm going to give it a shot.

You certainly have a point. But barrels are also rebored in order to get a bigger bore. For example, the .33 Win. and .348 Win. I had rebored to .458" was just to change caliber from .338" and .348" to .458"......
I had shot both guns in their original calibers before reboring them, and both shot a lot better after being made into .45's!

BoxheadI have a few rebores that Cliff LaBounty did and they are all top notch and cost a lot more than that to have done. He has since retired and sold his "stuff" to Jim Dubell and trained him on how to use it. I'd go there or to Dan Pederson who I have discussed a project with him and he was great to talk with but could not help as he can not handle handgun barrels due to length.

jeffeossoI think i'll give this jesse a call
09 August 2006, 18:52
aktoklatHhmmm! I wonder if he would re-bore my old .308 Win Model 88 to a .358 Win. This would make a fine larger caliber rifle??
Focus on the leading edge!

fla3006Don't know about Jesse but a friend had Jim rebore a 30-06 to 9.3 and he says it shoots inside MOA. Did cost about $300.

jeffeossoForrest,
I think this would be a really cool "fix" for making a 450 rigby from a 416

BlueprintedJeff are you thinking 376 so you can have a 376 Styer and turn your current Styer into a 375 Hornady??????? I am always concerned about getting what I pay for. This guy seems about half of what everyone else charges. He might be some tycoon that does re-boreing for the fun of it. Spin up an new A$B yourself and keep the old barrel for something else. You would still have enough cash for a pound of powder and a 12 pack.
09 August 2006, 19:57
jeffeossowas moring thinking of a boogered up "cigarette rifle" in 8x57 i know of.. if i could talk him into it, that would even be better at .423, for a 10.75x68.....
but a steyr would be niffty in that package

RogerJeffe,
Let's really strech the envelope.

jeffeosso2cents?

09 August 2006, 20:46
prof242Jeffe: Do you have any idea what the largest caliber that a Rem 760 could be bored out to? I'm thinking of a .366 or .375 rebore.
