My local store didn't have one to look at and I couldn't tell from their website. Is the safety on the CZ550 backwards like their 22s? Meaning do you pull it backwards to put it on safe?

The safety on my CZ action is forward to fire and back for safe.

I think all CZ 550's are like this. The smaller non magnum 550's have 3 position safeties?

Thanks guys. I thought I had heard that they were backwards. I know my CZ 22lr is. Good to know the 550 is in the normal direction.

The cz 550's are in the normal direction while the older model 602's are not. The exception to the rule is there .22 lr rifles I think. I have an older model Brno #2 but it is that long since I have used it I have forgotton about the saftey.

Does anyone know the bolt face diameter for the non magnums 550's?

I'm wondering if I could buy a 550 in 30-06 and then convert it to 338 win mag...

You could open your bolt face up, but why not start with a CZ550 magnum, in a 300 Win Mag/375H&H, or a CZ550 Medium in a 7MM Mag. Then your bolt face is right to start with and you don't need to fiddle with it.

I would look and see which had the widest forend on the stock and use that as you could use a heavier barrel contour without restocking.
