Hello Folks

Well- From down here in New Zealand I have been very envious of all the nicely worked actions that all you good folk have shared. I just had to get a piece of the action (pun intended) so spent a long time getting a really "nice" VZ-33 action. Its now back from its first "operation" by a NZ 'smith, and the photo does not really do it justice. I asked for a modern "scope compatible" interpretation of Orbendorf Model B style, and I think this is a pretty good effort.

I am now working on polishing out some minor pitting on other parts of the action, general polishing, and waiting on barrel delivery.

Cheers - Foster

That sure looks like a David Miller bolt handle! Very well done!

Hello Greg

Barrel (on its way forever from Germany) is a Walther Lothar 257, to be chambered in 257 Roberts. The profile is their "Barvarian Classic", I think #1500, its quite different to an american style lightweight, much more meat at the muzzle (.630) and less at the chamber and reinforce.

The bolt handle and bolt job were both done by Allan Carr of Paraparumu (near Wellington)

Cheers

I don't know what powders you can get in NZ, But IMR-4350 , H-414 H-4350 RL-19 and a few other all work real good.

Nice work that will be a nice rifle. Good work on the bolt. I haven't worked up enough courage to attempt one yet.
What is the number of the scope bases you are using. I am working on a M24/47 and need a set similar to those.

Rolland

I'm sorry I don't have a number for the bases, they are Leupold STD bases for unmodified 98 Mausers, the rear fits right over the charger hump (ie its still there) - so it must be common to all the 98's and the front base has to be for a "small ring" action in this case.

I can find out more in a few days when I see the 'smith again if you wish.

Cheers - Foster
